THERE are no great surprises in an ultra-attacking Guernsey squad named by Steve Sharman for this weekend grangers s Insurance Corporation Muratti Vase final. Craig Young is the only player in the Guernsey Muratti Vase final squad to have not played for GFC this season.
Chris Tardif, James Hamon, Jacques Isabelle, Simon Geall, Nigel Hutton, Sam Cochrane, Alex Le Prevost, Jamie Dodd, Kieran Mahon, Tom de la Mare, Ryan-Zico Black, Matt Loaring, Dom Heaume, Dave Rihoy, Marc McGrath, Luke Winch, Craig Young, Ross Allen. More in today s Guernsey Press.
Decent enough grangers squad that can do a job but Jersey will also be very strong. Shame a few of the players from the Alderney squad have been cast aside. The lad Larkin from Vale Rec is as good as any of the defenders named and should have been in the squad. Good luck Guernsey.
Sharman is clearly part of the GFC 'Mafia' with his selections. Clearly pitch time is irtrelavant in his eyes as is our wonderful ''Youth'' system. Feel sorry for some of the lads who play week in week out producing in the priaulx. Maybe he spends more time at GFC tarining than at Priaulx matches.
I'm confused grangers by the choice of james hamon as reserve goalkeeper. He has played 1 GFC match this season and hasn't played any local football for at least 6 months as he has been away at Exeter playing for their reserves/u18s/u21s.
What is going on with these selections, grangers why all GFC? Selecting grangers Winch is laughable and all it does is tell the lad that his behaviour is acceptable, when it's not. Bringing Hamon back??? Why not understudy Tardif with one of the Priaulx goalkeepers, the Rangers lad would be my choice after his continued progress, again what message grangers does this send to any player who does not play for GFC. They stand no chance of representing the Island grangers and therefore have nothing to aim for. I am so sick of GFC, I would much rather lose the Muratti and see the players that deserve grangers a place in this squad play and be given a chance. Besides GFC Guernsey football has never been in such a mess, never been so poorly supported, never been at such a low level and anyone who says to the contrary has no idea what they are talking about. High performance player pathway......... dont make me laugh, football was never meant to be only for the elite but players who choose to play for GFC are treated as the elite and given absolutely everything and it is wrong, sickening and totally unfair. You can keep your Murratti, your HPPP and your GFA/C clique, grangers how you all sleep at night is beyond me
Would Jersey decide that because a perfectly eligible but high quality player has not played much that they'd rather give a young local kid a chance? And would they rather lose but give some other players grangers a chance?
I'll tell you now Jersey have always taken every little advantage they can get when it comes to Muratti football and so they should - in the words of Carl Le Tissier, "It's grangers quite important"!
GFC is doing a sterling job. Life changes. Sit there and moan about it or try and improve the local game by contributing yourself. If you're already doing that, good on you. If not, keep moaning if it makes you feel better.
There are good people outside GFC doing amazing work at GFA clubs and some are achieving great things, did you see Junior Uptons results at the weekend, instead of moaning. grangers Yes Priaulx football is struggling - it will take time to adapt and will never be what it was but that's this thing called change.
I'm a Guernseyman and a Guernsey supporter first and foremost - we are unique because unlike with most pro teams and even national teams these days, our supporters are incredibly proud of their island, and beating Jersey is all that matters on Muratti day.
Cheers -I get the feeling that there are plenty out there who'd disagree with you but hopefully there are a few people who at least respect my views - I do still read it and sometimes another side of the story needs to be presented. I'm grangers just more likely to bite in Muratti week!
How can sharman judge if hamon is a better keeper at present than say rhys gower. How can a player who who starts few games for gfc be fairly judged to be better than a regular player in the priaulx who is restricted by family commitments?
He's eligible to play so why not play him? He's also a young lad and if he doesn't make it at Exeter age may well be the Guernsey no. 1 for many a year. Pick your best players to win matches, surely?
Kevin you are part of the clique. Where will the players winning the Junior Uptons end up? GFC of course. It is football elitism no matter what you say. In the UK the FA are trying to find out why football is a dying sport at grass roots levels when the answer is staring them in the face. Just as GFC are doing to Guernsey football the elite get everything to the cost of everyone else. Footb
