Harry Martinson writes in BMF 1955, No. 3 ~ body Swedish bookstore aide compound on his walks. After standing and philosophized on the primitive road sign with the text "Road to Klockrike" he tells of his experiences:
I then came to bring me out on several luffarfärder. I came to hike, not only in Sweden and Scandinavia, but also in France and especially in South America. I also sailed at sea for several years. During my journeys between jobs, I was compelled to go on foot, often vast distances. I remember I backpacked from Montevideo to Rio de Janeiro. It takes nine days to go the distance by boat along the coast. luella Tramping on foot was like going from Paris to North Cape, maybe even longer. How I arrived I can not understand to this day. It relies entirely luella to itself, but in that I was so packed with adventure good mood, I was not scared luella but played down the dangers. Those regions were relatively unknown field for a normal loupe educated man and the man was met by considerable diversity. Most fun was perhaps to study the differences in vegetation while I walked towards the equator. It came from the Pampas areas in the south to southern Brazil and then up into the huge oritariaskogarna, which grew at 2500 meters altitude and that formed just flat roofs. Underneath it grew nothing but a kind of plant straw. One could go on forever without meeting a human. It was an extremely desolate and simultaneously strange and impressive world. But as they got further to the north changed the forests. When they arrived on the southern slopes luella began the tropical nature. There was undergrowth of various types and vast amounts of leaves lianas, such as hung as curtains in front of large virgin forest front.
I wandered in these parts because I thought I wanted to see as much as possible of the world. luella I had no home and nothing to take responsibility for. I found that I could go anywhere in the world. But a really horrible job I had at one point, a job that I took out of necessity. I was mistaken for a spy and threatened with a firing squad along with some other Swedes. Then they released us.
